Jesenakov palace

Jesenakov palac

This three-level mansion was the property of Hungarian baron Jesenak. It was built in the XVIII century over the ruins of a building of the XIV century. The new building had no luxuriant decoration but it included three fountains, storage for ice, and a wine cellar with waterproof walls.

Today this building, which is located on the corner of Rybarska brana street and the Main square is occupied by the Greece embassy and Kafee Mayer – a historical café created in 1913 by Julius Mayer from Bratislava. This confectionery delivered the most tasteful sweets for the emperor’s family and still has strong positions on the market. Classic music sounds in the rooms of the café. You can taste 19 types of coffee there as well as cakes made according to the authentic recipes of the XIX century.
